Riis Sells Team Saxo and Riis Cycling to Russian Businessman Tinkoff

Riis-owned company Riis Cycling A/S, which runs WorldTour Team Saxo-Tinkoff, has been bought by Tinkoff. Tinkoff's bank ended its sponsorship of Team Saxo-Tinkoff at the conclusion of the 2013 season citing conflicts between Tinkoff and team captain Alberto Contador who delivered substandard performances in 2013.

Morkov Overtakes Martin at Line, Wins Stage 6 of Vuelta

Michael Morkov (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff) has won Stage 6 of the Vuelta a Espana. The Danish road champion took a bunch sprint after daylong breakaway Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) was captured in the last 30 m. Morkov took the rolling, 175-km ride from Guijuelo to Caceres in 3:54:15, with Maximiliano Richeze (Lampre-Merida) outsprinting Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack-Leopard) for second. Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) remains the red jersey.

Roche Wins Stage 2 of Vuelta; Nibali Takes Red Jersey

Nicolas Roche (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff) has climbed to victory in Stage 2 of the Vuelta a Espana. The Irishman jumped away from a four-man lead group on the day’s final climb to win the 177.7-km ride from Pontevedra to Alto da Groba in 4:37:09. Daniel Moreno (Katusha) finished second at 0:02, and Domenico Pozzovivo (Ag2r-La Mondiale) took third. Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) took the red jersey from teammate Janez Brajkovic (Astana).
