Horner Climbs to Victory in Stage 10 of Vuelta; Reclaims Red Jersey

Chris Horner (RadioShack-Leopard) became the oldest man to win a Grand Tour stage or lead a Grand Tour by winning Stage 3 of this year’s Vuelta a Espana. Today, the American veteran repeated the feat. Horner surged away from the red jersey group in the last five km to win the mountainous, 186.8-km ride from Torredelcampo to Guejar Sierra in 4:30:22. Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) took second at 0:48, and Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) outsprinted Ivan Basso (Cannondale) for third at 1:02.

Moreno Takes Second Stage Win of Vuelta, Red Jersey

Daniel Moreno (Katusha) has won Stage 9 of the Vuelta a Espana 2013. The Spaniard attacked in the last km to win Stage 9, a hilly, 163.7-km ride from Antequera to Valdepenas de Jaen, in 4:18:57. Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) outsprinted Joaquin Rodriguez (Katusha) for second at 0:04. Moreno picked up enough bonus seconds to take the red jersey from Nicolas Roche (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff).

Konig Notches First Grand Tour Stage Win for NetApp-Endura

NetApp-Endura has taken its first Grand Tour stage victory. Leopold Konig did the honors for the German squad. The Czech rider overtook Igor Anton (Euskaltel-Euskadi) in the last km to win Stage 8 of the 2013 Vuelta a Espana, a 166.6-km ride from Jerez de la Frontera to Alto de Penas Blancas, in 4:09:46. Daniel Moreno (Katusha) finished second at 0:01, and Nicolas Roche (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff) took third at 0:05. Roche’s placing was good enough to take the red jersey from Vincenzo Nibali (Astana).

Stybar took a two-up sprint from world road race champion Philippe Gilbert (Team BMC Racing) to win the rolling, 205.9-km ride from Almendralejo to Mairena de Aljafare in 4:51:27. Robert Wagner (Belkin) won the sprint for third at 0:01. Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) remains the red jersey.

Michael Morkov (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff) has won Stage 6 of the Vuelta a Espana. The Danish road champion took a bunch sprint after daylong breakaway Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) was captured in the last 30 m. Morkov took the rolling, 175-km ride from Guijuelo to Caceres in 3:54:15, with Maximiliano Richeze (Lampre-Merida) outsprinting Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack-Leopard) for second. Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) remains the red jersey.
