Laporte Wins Paris-Tours

Christophe Laporte has won Paris-Tours 2024 ahead of Mathias Vacek and Jasper Philipsen following intense riding in wet and muddy racing conditions

Christophe Laporte has won Paris-Tours 2024 for Team Visma-Lease a Bike. The French rider won a two-man sprint in the final meters, following a long breakaway effort in rainy and muddy racing conditions.

Mathias Vacek (Team Lidl-Trek) finished second, while Jasper Philipsen completed the race podium by winning a sprint between the riders in the chase group.

Completely covered in mud, Laporte was applauded for his efforts by the many spectators along the Avenue de Grammont at the conclusion of the 213.8-kilometer race from Chartres to Tours. Laporte and Vacek had admirably escaped from the other riders in the race on the hills and vineyard paths that dominated the final part of the race.

The earlier parts of the race had been dominated by a strong attack from Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) and Edoardo Affini (Visma-Lease a Bike), before being overtaken by Laporte and Vacek.

“This victory is very important to me,” Laporte explained to Roadcycling.com following the race. “It’s been a long time since my latest race victory, so I am extremely happy. The bronze medal at the Paris Olympics is still special to me, but I was missing the sheer joy of victory and I’ve now completed my season in the best possible way.”
