Jade Wilcoxson Wins 2012 Women's Tour of Elk Grove
Women's 2012 US National Racing Calendar concludes.
In the final women's event on the 2012 National Racing Calendar, Jade Wilcoxson (Talent, Oregon/Optum Pro Cycling p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) took two out of three stages at the Tour of Elk Grove in Elk Grove, Ill., to secure the overall win. For Wilcoxson's Optum Pro Cycling p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies team, it was a fitting way to cap the NRC season as the top women's team.
Alison Powers (Pinecliffe, Colorado/NOW and Novartis for MS), who finished second overall to Wilcoxson by 10 seconds, won the stage 1 time trial. Wilcoxson then bested the field in the following day's criterium before capping it off with a victory in Sunday's circuit race.
Powers finished the NRC season ranked second in the final standings behind Carmen Small (Durango, Colorado/Optum Pro Cycling p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies), who clinched the top spot following the Cascade Classic Stage Race in July. Wilcoxson claims the third spot, just 13 points behind Powers. Megan Guarnier (Mountain View, California/Team TIBCO-To the Top) and Amber Neben (Lake Forest, California/Specialized-lululemon) round out the top five NRC women's individual rankings in fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the men's Tour of Elk Grove, which was not on the National Racing Calendar due to its UCI 2.1 ranking, the general classification was won by Francois Parisean (CAN/Team SpiderTech powered by C10) by just a single second over John Murphy (Asheville, N.C./ Kenda/5-Hour Energy Pro Cycling presented by GearGrinder).
