Mark Cavendish (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) has drawn first blood at the Giro d'Italia. The Manx missile powered past Elia Viviani (Cannondale) in the last 200 m of a crash-marred bunch sprint to win the flat, 130-km circuit race in and around Naples in 2:58:18.

Chris Froome (Sky) has won the Tour of Romandy 2013. The Briton claimed the overall win after Stage 6, a flat, 18.7-km individual time trial in Geneva, in which he finished third. World time trial champion Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) won the stage in 21:07, with Adriano Malori (Lampre-Merida) taking second at 0:15 and Froome finishing third at 0:33.
