The Briton surged away from the group of favorites to overtake Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff) and Matthew Busche (RadioShack-Leopard) and win Stage 5, a mountainous, 139-km ride from Gresy-sur-Aix to Valmorel, in 3:28:39. Contador outsprinted Busche for second at 0:04.

Chris Froome (Sky) has won the Tour of Romandy 2013. The Briton claimed the overall win after Stage 6, a flat, 18.7-km individual time trial in Geneva, in which he finished third. World time trial champion Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) won the stage in 21:07, with Adriano Malori (Lampre-Merida) taking second at 0:15 and Froome finishing third at 0:33.
