Filippo Ganna Wins Stage 1 Time Trial at Tirreno-Adriatico
Stage 1 of Tirreno-Adriatico 2025 had been designed by race organizer RCS Sport as an individual time trial in beautiful Lido di Camaiore.
While Juan Ayuso had won the stage 1 time trial of last year’s Tirreno-Adriatico by one second ahead of Ganna, this year it was the Italian National Time Trial Champion’s time to prove who was the strongest time trial rider in the peloton.
In a reversal of last year’s result, Filippo Ganna won the stage 1 time trial of Tirreno-Adriatico ahead of Juan Ayuso and his Ineos-Grenadiers team can now celebrate his stunning performance and race lead in the Italian Race of the Two Seas, contested between the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic coasts.
Juan Ayuso finished 23 seconds behind Ganna, while Denmark’s Johan Price-Pejtersen completed the stage podium for his Alpecin-Deceuninck team. Jonathan Milan finished fourth for Team Lidl-Trek.
“In the first part of the stage I just focused on the targets set by our team,” stage winner Ganna explained to Roadcycling.com. “When Dario Cioni told me I was in the lead, I decided to give it my all.” “I now have experience from nine editions of Tirreno-Adriatico and this experience and those emotions helped med find that special energy needed to perform even better today,” Ganna added.
Tuesday’s stage 2 of Tirreno-Adriatico will be a 192-kilometer ride in flat terrain on a route from Camaiore to Follonica. The stage route will take the riders through Pisa and especially the second part of the stage should prove challenging for the riders. Expect the sprinters and breakaway hopefuls in this year’s Tirreno-Adriatico peloton to fight for their moment in the spotlight.
