Team Saxo Bank-SunGard's Alberto Contador fell out of contention at the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon 2011 earlier today, falling victim to a couple of flats in a mountainous third stage won Filippo Savini.

The Tour de France champion had to deal with a pair of flats for the second time in three days, with the second puncture coming just two kilometers from the finish of the 98-mile stage.

"I had some bad luck," said Contador, who was nearly 3 minutes behind Savini in 28th. "Let's see if I have better luck in (Saturday's) time trial."

Savini won in 3 hours, 58 minutes, 25 seconds to edge Bauke Mollema of Rabobank and Colnago-CSF Inox teammate Domenico Pozzovivo by 7 seconds.

Contador, a three-time champion who was hoping to defend his title, was 2:50 back and now trails 2:43 behind Mollema, the new overall leader with a total time of 13:17:52.

The Court for Arbitration of Sport is set to review the Spanish cycling federation's decision not to punish Contador despite a failed Tour de France doping test.
