Team BMC Racing's Martin Kohler, who suffered an unfortunate crash in the second stage of the 2010 Giro d'Italia on the dangerous Dutch roads on Sunday, has made it through the surgery on his broken collarbone very well. However, before the surgery the doctors discovered that he also has a broken wrist bone.
According to reports, the surgery at the Schulthess Clinic in Zurich proceeded without any complications. "After waking up, I was in extreme pain. The bones were screwed on with plates," Martin Kohler commented from his bed.
In spite of the successful operation, there was bad news for the Swiss rider. The doctors discovered that his wrist bone was also broken. "That was a big shock for me. Now the hand has to be immobilized with a splint for six weeks. At most, I'll be able to train on the stationary bike," Kohler added.
Kohler unfortunately still doesn't know if and when he'll be able to compete again this season.
