Mark Cavendish and Team HTC-HighRoad Ready for 2011 Vuelta a Espana

Team HTC-HighRoad intends to leave the world of cycling with a bang by setting a dominant fingerprint of the final Grand Tour for the team - the 2011 Tour of Spain.

Team HTC-HighRoad intends to leave the world of cycling with a bang by setting a dominant fingerprint of the final Grand Tour for the team - the 2011 Tour of Spain.

The HTC-HighRoad roster for the 2011 Vuelta a Espana is built around sprinter ace Mark Cavendish and the team aims to obtain as many stage victories as possible and to claim the overall Vuelta lead in the first week of racing.

Therefore, the team sends German time trial powerhouses Bert Grabsch and Tony Martin to Spain in order to help Cavendish take the overall Vuelta lead in the team time trial or obtain as good a GC position as possible for the following stages.

"It's not easy for us to think of this as the last Grand Tour for the team, given it's our history," Team HTC-HighRoad sports director Jens Zemke told Roadcycling.com and Roadcycling.mobi and added "But all of us, riders and staff are professionals and we have kept the motivation high."

"We have a lot of sprinters in our Vuelta line-up so we'll be going for stage wins over the GC, but if any of our guys wind up with a good position we'll support him."

"We want a good result in the team time trial on Saturday. It's thirteen and a half kilometers long and the guys are in good form so we're confident to make a good result there."

The team has also enlisted HTC-Highroad's technical developer, Lars Teutenberg for his time trail expertise to make sure that the fleet is in absolute perfect condition for the opening team time trial on Saturday.

Team HTC-Highroad roster for the 2011 Vuelta a España:
Mark Cavendish (GB), Tony Martin (Ger), Bert Grabsch (Ger), John Degenkolb (Ger), Matthew Goss (Aus), Leigh Howard (Aus), Michael Albasini (Swi), Kanstantsin Sivtsov (Byl), and Martin Velits (Slv).
