The Italian Olympic Committee has banned an entire family for doping.
The Italian Olympic Committee has banned an entire family for doping.
The ANSA news agency said CONI's anti-doping tribunal handed down a five-year ban Monday to cyclist Lorenzo Bernucci.
His wife, Valentina Borgioli, mother Antonella Rossi and father-in-law Fabrizio Borgioli, got four years while his brother Alessio Bernucci got a three-year ban after being linked to blood doping by a Padua prosecutor, ANSA said. The bans prevent the family members from involvement in sports events in Italy.
CONI is expected to issue a statement on the case.
Bernucci didn't test positive, but the investigation involved wiretaps and testimony.
He was suspended by pro cycling Team Lampre after a police raid in April. He tested positive for a non-amphetamine appetite suppressant in 2007.
