Team Sky's Bradley Wiggins (Great Britain) earlier today climbed to victory in the final stage of the 2012 Tour de Romandie - a 16.5 kilometer individual mountain time trial from Crans Montana to Montana Village, Switzerland.
Team Garmin-Barracuda's Andrew Talansky finished 2nd, just seven tenths of a second behind Wiggins while Richie Porte of Team Sky claimed the third spot on the stage podium in Montana Village.
Today's stage victory also secured Wiggins the overall Tour of Romandy race victory. Wiggins finished 16 seconds ahead of Talansky in the overall rankings and Team Movistar's Rui Costa of Portugal finished 3rd overall, 36 seconds behind the race winner.
Wiggins secured his second stage race victory of the season after battling back from a mechanical issue out on course. Wiggins won the Paris-Nice earlier this year.
Despite briefly dropping his chain at the beginning of the climb at Crans-Montana, Wiggins bounced back to set the fastest intermediate time and clock a final time of 28 minutes and 57 seconds.
Commenting on his victory Wiggins said "It's really nice to finish it off in a time trial on the last day for the boys. I think in terms of pressure I've got to grips with that now. I'm pleased with the way I handled that moment because a few years ago I might have thrown my toys out of the pram and chucked my bike down the ravine. I had a super-strong team this week and they've put me in this position going into this final time trial just nine seconds down. So I'm delighted to win the time trial and seal the GC to pay them back.
Competing in today's individual mountain time trial on his BMC teammachine SLR01 defending Tour de Romandie champion Cadel Evans finished in 40th position, 1 minute and 46 seconds behind Wiggins.
After the stage Evans said his form is finally starting to improve after having struggled with the sinus infection, which he says has affected him negatively following his overall victory in this year's Critérium International, which was contested on the isle of Corsica.
"I'm sorry I couldn't have a bit more strength to put on the course and put on the results sheet," Evans commented and continued "When you come here with the No. 1 on your back, like I came here to Romandie, you come to win here. Unfortunately, things haven't been going so well for me this year for reasons a little bit beyond my control. But now things are coming together, which - going toward July and August - is probably more and more important for my year overall."
