Dominguez Wins Stage 3 of Andalucian Tour; Leads Race

Juan Carlos Dominguez (Saunier Duval-Prodir) has won Stage 3 of the Tour of Andalucia.

Juan Carlos Dominguez (Saunier Duval-Prodir) has won Stage 3 of the Tour of Andalucia. The Spaniard rode away from Carlos Garcia Quesada (Comunitat Valenciana-Kelme) and Samuel Sanchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi) to win the 169-km ride from Humilladero to Puerto de Alto Virgen de la Sierra in 4:05:16. Quesada finished second at 0:15, and Sanchez took third at 0:19. Dominguez has taken the overall lead in the Andalucian Tour.

Thierry Marichal (Lotto-Domo) and Francisco Ventoso (Saunier Duval) made the early break. The duo left the peloton at 30 km, and their lead maxed out at nearly 9:00. Comunitat Valenciana-Kelme led the pursuit and reeled in the escapees by the base of the Virgen de la Sierra. With a man in the early break, Dominguez and Saunier Duval had not had to chase and were fresh for the battle on the day's final climb. Dominguez dropped the field en route to the stage win and race leadership.

In the overall, Dominguez leads Quesada by 0:15 and Sanchez by 0:19. Stage 4, a 159-km ride from Lucena to Jaen, will have two Category 2 climbs, but will probably end in a sprint. Who will take it? Freire? Zabel? Van Heeswijk? Check in at www.roadcycling.com and find out!
