Garmin Introduces Edge 1030 GPS Computer and Vector 3/3S Power Pedals
The Garmin Edge 1030 is Garmin's latest GPS cycling computer aimed at professional cyclists and serious recreational cyclists who are looking for a GPS-enabled cycling computer that offers navigation, performance tracking, training advice and awareness aid in a single unit.
By choosing a lightweight, 3.5-inch high-resolution capacitive touch panel display, Garmin has preserved its well-known form factor design for its latest GPS bike computer. According to Garmin, the touch display remains quick and responsive when wet or used with gloves.
Using so-called trendline popularity routing, the Edge 1030 will allow cyclists to ride with increased confidence by drawing on billions of miles of ride data collected from other cyclists by the Garmin Connect service, thereby making it possible for riders to select the best road cycling and MTB routes for their cycling rides and adventures - even gravel routes are available, should you decide to enter into Strade Bianche Eroica Pro mode.
Garmin has preloaded the smart Garmin Edge 1030 cycling computer with GPS cycle maps, which provide turn-by-turn directions on rides and even delivers navigation alerts ahead of sharp curves. New rider-to-rider messaging enables cyclists to send prewritten messages to other riders in their group while cycling.
The Edge 1030 comes with the latest version of Strava Live Segments, which Strava claims offers more competition and better segments. Riders will receive second-by-second, real-time comparisons of their performance against their most relevant competitor and will race against their actual speeds.
Installed on the Edge 1030 and combined with a TrainingPeaks training diary subscription as used by professional cyclists, the new TrainingPeaks Connect IQ app delivers daily workouts directly to your Garmin Edge 1030 cycling computer so you can get the best possible effects of each training ride in your busy life schedule.
On the Garmin Edge 1030, the TrainingPeaks Connect IQ app guides cyclists through workouts in real time – complete with intensity targets and interval durations. After a workout, syncing to TrainingPeaks will provide cyclists with a detailed analysis of their ride and body performance, as well as the ability to measure progress toward their training goals.
The Garmin Edge 1030 GPS cycle computer offers up to 20 hours of battery life and comes in a bundle option that includes a heart rate monitor as well as cadence and speed sensors.
The new Garmin Vector 3/3S pedal-based power meter for bikes has been completely redesigned. Unlike former versions of Garmin Vector power meters, the Vector 3/3S does not have a pod and installs like any other pedal, making it easy to transfer from one bike to another. The dual-sensing Vector 3 measures total power, left-right balance, cadence and advanced cycling dynamics while the single-sensing Vector 3S reports cadence and total power.
