Voigt Wins Paris-Nice Prologue

Jens Voigt (CSC) has won the prologue of Paris-Nice.

Jens Voigt (CSC) has won the prologue of Paris-Nice. Voigt blitzed through the four-km circuit in Issy-les-Molineaux in 5:15:41, which was 0:02 faster than Fabian Cancellara (Fassa Bortolo) and 0:03 better than Erik Dekker (Rabobank). Voigt led a strong Danish squad that put six men in the first 17 places.

When Voigt posted his time, 23 riders had a chance to better it. Some came close, but none could do so. Cancellara and Dekker finished second and third, respectively, while Voigt?s teammate Vladimir Gusev was fourth at 0:04. World time trial champion Michael Rogers (Quick Step) was 10th at 0:06, and Bobby Julich, Voigt?s roommate and best friend on CSC, took 17th at 0:07. Six-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong (Discovery), who is riding his first race of the season, finished 140th at 0:27 and admitted that he is rusty.

The first road stage of Paris-Nice will be a flat, 186.5 km-run from Etampes to Chabris. The field should enter the final km together, and the stage should end in a bunch sprint. Who will take it? Tom Boonen (Quick Step)? Alejandro Valverde (Illes Balears)? Jean-Patrick Nazon (Ag2r)? Check in at Roadcycling.com and find out!
