Primoz Roglic Abandons Tour de France
Earlier today it was announced Slovenian rider Primoz Roglic will not appear at the start of stage 13 of Tour de France 2024 because of injuries sustained in yesterday’s stage 12.
The captain of Team Red Bull – Bora – Hansgrohe crashed with other riders approximately twelve kilometers from the finish in Villeneuve-sur-Lot and crossed the finish line with a time loss of 02:27 minutes. The three-time winner of Vuelta a Espana and winner of last year’s Giro d’Italia was escorted to the finish line by five loyal teammates.
Sports directors from Team RedBull-Bora-Hansgrohe are blaming race organizer A.S.O. for the crash and complain about the crash site not being well-protected for the riders. The riders had to cross a dangerous section of road, which featured a mid-block narrowing curb. this section was unmarked, and the riders received no early warning as is otherwise custom in the Tour de France. Roglic has now been forced to leave the Tour de France because of the crash.
The German team arrived at the start of this year’s Tour de France in Florence, Italy, with high hopes of achieving a podium spot in the general classification with the Slovenian general classification expert who signed a contract with Team Red Bull – Bora – Hansgrohe before this season when he decided to end his tenure with Team Jumbo-Visma.
Following a forced period of recovery, Roglic will focus on new goals for the 2024 season, including a fourth general classification victory in the Vuelta a Espana.
