Stuart O'Grady (Cofidis) has won Stage 5 of the Dauphine Libere. The Australian bested George Hincapie (U.S. Postal Service) in a two-up sprint to win the rolling, 149-km run from Bollene to Sisteron in 3:13:21. Baden Cooke (La Francaise des Jeux.com), O'Grady's compatriot, outsprinted Jerome Pineau (Brioches La Boulangere) for third at 1:33. Iban Mayo (Euskaltel) remains the overall leader.

From the start, the racing was aggressive. After many abortive sallies, nine men--Yuri Krivtsov (Ag2r), O'Grady and Cooke, Hincapie and Victor Hugo Pena (both from U.S. Postal Service), Pierrick Fedrigo (Credit Agricole), Nicolas Jalabert (Phonak), Pineau, and Bram De Groot (Rabobank)--attacked. At the summit of the Col de la Mevouillon (about 80 km), the escapees led the field by 6:10.

At 104 km, O'Grady attacked and Hincapie followed him. With 22 km left, the two led their erstwhile companions by 0:42 and the bunch by 7:35. With 200 m left, O'Grady jumped Hincapie for the win.

In the overall, Mayo leads Tyler Hamilton and Oscar Sevilla (both from Phonak) by 0:36 and 1:14, respectively. Stage 6 will be a challenge. The mountainous, 144-km ride from Gap to Grenoble will feature eight categorized climbs, including the Col du Luitel at 110 km.
