Team RadioShack-Nissan's Fabian Cancellara underwent successful surgical treatment in Basel, Switzerland last night after crashing in yesterday's Tour of Flanders. In the crash the Swiss rider fractured his right collarbone.
During surgery it was discovered that the collarbone fracture was actually a four-part fracture and not a three-part fracture as identified by the doctors at the Oudenaarde hospital in Belgium.
The collarbone was reassembled using a special technique involving a clavicle pin, which according to doctors allows for a better and faster recovery.
Cancellara will have to undergo an additional surgical procedure in order to have the clavicle pin removed once the collar bone has healed. This procedure is of the minor kind.
