Craft Layer 1 Bike and Sports Bra Review
Finally a bra specifically designed for road biking that delivers! OK, how many times have you put on that sports bra, gotten down into the biking position only to have your cleavage show and passerbyers honk and wave in admiration? Not the intended goal, right? Let's face it; most sports bras are made for runners and other high impact activities.
Now, Craft has designed the Craft Layer 1 Bike Bra. This sport specific bra has been created with a "bike specific construction that provides a perfect riding-position fit" and indeed it does just that. Girls, this bra delivers!
To start with the bra is shaped differently than most bras, designed specifically for the biking position. The front is enhanced with a Craft Cool Mesh panel above the breast area to stop cleavage when down in the bars. The straps are pre-shaped to follow a women's anatomic position while in the biking position and come together in a tight racerback for comfort. The straps and underarm edges have been enhanced with non-chafing ergonomic mesh fabric that truly feels like soft ribbon. No rubbing, no discomfort, no chafing. The bra just truly feels right, a perfect fit for biking.
The most amazing part of this bra is its moisture wicking capabilities. Craft Body Controlling fabric is utilized in the main support areas, wicking wonderfully even in rain. But the beauty of this bra is the Cool Mesh Superlight panels that provide optimal moisture management while providing good support and coverage. These panels are in the areas that require ventilation for wicking, the "hot spots" immediately above and below the cleavage as well as the racerback straps. This bra also has antimicrobial protection and provides SPF 50+.
I tested the Craft Bike Bra while road biking 75 miles in the 95-degree heat. It was fabulous. The moisture wicking was tremendous. No white t-shirt contest, no chafing, just complete comfort.
The next day, I tested the Craft Layer Sports Bra, which is very similar in composition but designed for high impact activities (basic sports bra set up but with wide, padded, pre-shaped shoulder straps). I mountain biked about 15 miles until I was caught in a storm of rain, hail, and lightening. I diverted my route and headed home. I thought I found "the short cut" but instead hike-a-biked down a ledge, through a creek and then climbed-a-bike up a 50 foot rocky cliff (a new one for me) only to find a healthy poison ivy patch on top that I hiked-a-bike through for another 15 minutes.
I finally reached home. I was drenched and muddy from head to toe, my bike shorts, my socks, my shoes, and my hair. But, my Craft bike bra was basically dry and comfortable. No chafing or even tension around the bra, just complete comfort. This experience is a true testament to the construction of the Craft Bike and Sports Bras. These bras truly perform!
I would recommend the Craft Layer 1 Bike Bra and the Craft Layer 1 Sports Bra for their comfort, construction, and moisture wicking abilities. I hear there is another storm coming, anyone want to join me for a ride? I know a challenging route!
