Hushovd edged stage 3 winner Peter Sagan (Slovakia) of Team Liquigas-Cannondale to clock 4 hours, 46 minutes, 5 seconds for the 200 kilometer/123-mile trek from Grindelwald to Huttwil.
Italy's Marco Marcato of Team Vacansoleil won a mass sprint for third place, trailing Hushovd by two seconds.
The 33-year-old Norwegian got his first victory since winning the road race gold at the worlds last October in Geeelong, Australia.
Team Lampre's Damiano Cunego retained his 54-second lead overall ahead of Colombian Juan Mauricio Soler of Team Movistar.
Tomorrow's fifth stage of the 2011 Tour de Suisse is a 130-mile route from Huttwil to Tobel-Taegerschen.
