Scotland wants to host the opening stage of the Tour de France in 2017.

Event Scotland is preparing a bid and its chief executive Paul Bush has already met Tour de France organizer A.S.O.'s director Christian Prudhomme.

Earlier today Bush told BBC Scotland that for Scotland to host a stage of the Tour de France "in 2017 would be a huge coup."

Bush says hosting the time-trial stage would cost five million pounds ($7.8 million), but could generate 100 million pounds for the Scottish economy.

The stage could possibly take place between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
