Team RadioShack Signs Three New Riders for 2011

Three talented riders are joining Team RadioShack in 2011. One rider from Team Trek-Livestrong, one experienced rider and a young rider from an external team.

Three talented riders are joining Team RadioShack in 2011: one rider from Trek-Livestrong, Jesse Sergent (New Zealand), the experienced Manuel Antonio Cardoso (Portugal) from Footon-Servetto and one young rider from the Caja Rural Team, Michal Kwiatkowski (Poland).

Manuel Antonio Cardoso (Paços de Ferreira, Portugal, April 7th, 1983) scored this year his first ProTour victory over Alejandro Valverde, Cadel Evans and Peter Sagan in the sprint in Stirling (Tour Down Under).  In the last five years the 2009 national road champion won 33 races as a professional rider (for the teams Carvalhelhos-Boavista, Riberalves-Boavista, Liberty Seguros and Footon-Servetto).

Jesse Sergent (Feilding, NZ, July 8th, 1988) is the silver medalist of the world pursuit championship, 2010.  In May he won the time trial stage in the Tour of Gila over specialists Levi Leipheimer and Dave Zabriskie. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Sergent won the bronze medal as part of the New Zealand team in team pursuit. Since August 2010 Jesse Sergent is stagiair rider for Team RadioShack.

Michal Kwiatkowski (Poland, June 2nd, 1990) is a former world champion time trial (juniors, 2008, Cape Town) being faster than Jakob Steigmiller and Taylor Phinney in that race. Kwiatkowski is also double European champion (road race 2007, time trial 2008). In 2009 he became national road champion in the U23 category. This year he rode for the Spanish continental Caja Rural Team. On Sunday he will start in the Tour de l'Avenir (France) with the national Team of Poland.

"All three riders are classy riders. They have a lot of potential," commented Sports Team manager Johan Bruyneel. "We believe in them. These talents will be well surrounded by our experienced riders. We need to work on the future of Team RadioShack and of cycling in general. This is a first step. Currently we are negotiating with other potential future riders for our 2011 team."
