Visconti Undergoes Surgery in Adelaide
Giovanni Visconti underwent surgery on Sunday evening (European time) after x-rays revealed a fracture in his right tibia - a fracture caused by a crash which occurred in lap six of the People's Choice Classic. Doctors at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Adelaide operated on Visconti for about one hour during which they used an intramedular nailing needle to rejoin the broken tibia.
Doctors have ordered Visconti to remain in the Royal Adelaide Hospital for at least three days during which he will be observed and may possibly undergo further treatment if needed.
Visconti is expected to return to Europe together with his Movistar teammates when the Santos Tour Down Under concludes at the end of this week. Doctors have advised him to stay off his bike for the next five weeks.
