UCI Suspends Team Androni-Giocattolli-Sidermec
The UCI has decided to suspend Team Androni Giocattolli Sidermec.
Earlier today the International Cycling Union (UCI) announced it is suspending the UCI Continental Team Androni Giocattolli Sidermec for a period of thirty days from August 1 through August 30, 2015. The suspension is carried out according with the terms set forth in article 7.12.1 of the UCI Anti-Doping Rules providing for a team suspension.
The UCI introduced the team suspension provisions on January 1 this year and this is the first matter where the rule is used against a team.
The reason for the suspension of the team is the notification of two potential anti-doping rule violations within a 12 month period.
"For the duration of its suspension, Team Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec is suspended from participating in any international event. As provided for under article 7.12.1 ADR, Team Androni Giocattolli-Sidermec may file a request for a lifting of the suspension before the Disciplinary Commission," the UCI said in a statement released to the international press.
Italian Davide Appollonio tested positive (non-negative) for EPO on June 14 and Italian Fabio Taborre tested positive (non-negative) for the developmental blood booster FG-4592 on Monday.
The UCI declined to make further comments on the matter to Roadcycling.com.
