UAE Team Emirates Signs Pavel Sivakov
Sivakov is currently riding for Ineos-Grenadiers and has been with the British team since 2018. He is known for his great climbing skills and general classification focus in one-week races and the Tour de France, Vuelta a Espana and Giro d’Italia Grand Tours.
UAE Team Emirates has hired Sivakov to reinforce the team’s climbing skills in Grand Tours, thereby hoping to improve the chances of seeing team captain Tadej Pogacar take the top spot on the podiums of Grand Tours.
“We are very pleased to welcome Pavel (Sivakov) into our team for the coming years,” UAE Team Emirates CEO and Manager Mauro Gianetti told Roadcycling.com.
“Pavel has shown his ability both as a winner and as a worker and we feel he can slot in well into our team. He is still young with margin for progression, but also holds experience at the top level, which makes us confident we see the best of him over the next years with us.”
Last season Sivakov won Vuelta a Burgos and finished third in the Youth Classification of Giro d’Italia. He also finished second in Classica San Sebastian. In 2019 he won both the Tour de Pologne and Tour of the Alps, in which he also secured a stage victory.
“I’m really excited to be joining UAE Team Emirates next year,” Sivakov explained to Roadcycling.com. “It’s going to open a new chapter in my career after the past six years at Ineos-Grenadiers. For sure it’s going to be a big change for me, but I’m really looking forward to joining the UAE project. I’ve been seeing how the team has been developing over the years and I ‘m happy to become part of the that, both to try and win races myself and to help my teammates win races.”
