Team Redbull-Bora-Hansgrohe Reveals Roster for Tour de France 2024
Surrounded by beautiful historic scenery in the streets of Florence, the Bora-Hansgrohe team revealed the result of its metamorphosis into the new and revived Team Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe.
The team is approaching the 2024 Tour de France and future races and seasons with significantly amplified ambitions. The financial infusion from Red Bull, which is joining as new lead sponsor, will allow the team to sign additional star riders and attract new talent.
Launching its new team concept, Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe is sending a strong line-up to Tour de France 2024. The team will be spearheaded by team captain Primoz Roglic, who won last year’s Giro d’Italia and has taken three stage victories in previous editions of the Tour de France. 34-year-old Roglic will be the sole captain of the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe team in this year’s Tour de France and the team is aiming for a victory in the General Classification.
It will be the first Grand Tour for Primoz Roglic since he moved from Team Visma – Lease a Bike at the end of last season. It is an exciting opportunity for the Slovenian rider to function as team leader with his new team in a Grand Tour – and this even in the Grandest Tour of all Grand Tours: Le Tour de France.
Roglic arrives at the start of this year’s Tour de France on the back of a General Classification victory in the Criterium du Dauphine – a stage race in which he impressed by winning no less than two stages.
“I feel young, revived and am very happy to be here for the start of the 2024 Tour in Florence,” Roglic told Roadcycling.com. “My aim and focus are to seize each and every opportunity in the race that starts tomorrow. I don’t know if this is my last Tour de France or I will do ten more, but regardless I intend to play my cards to take the big win.”
“Naturally, the Tour de France lasts three weeks and it’s only at the end of the final stage that we know who the best participant is this year. But I must be there from day one, remain focused and perform my absolute best,” Roglic explained.
“This year we enter mountain territory very early in the race with the Galibier as part of the fourth stage, then hit the gravel at the end of the first week, so it is going to be crazy to ride and interesting to watch.”
Roglic has marked the stage 2 San Luca climb in his calendar and considers this an early opportunity in this year’s Tour. It was the same climb he used for his three Giro dell’Emilia victories, and he likes the very short and steep hill.
Beyond Roglic, the other seven riders in the team’s proud line-up have each been carefully selected by team management to complement and support Roglic in all types of terrain.
Jai Hindley will support Roglic in the mountains as will Aleksandr Vlasov. Both riders are very strong climbers and have already acquired valuable Tour de France experience. Hindley even wore the yellow jersey for one day in last year’s Tour. Matteo Sobrero has been chosen to offer additional climbing support.
Bob Jungels has been assigned the role of road captain, while Danny van Poppel, Nico Denz, and Marco Haller will deploy their energy stores in flat terrain.
Rather than finishing in Paris as tradition prescribes, the 2024 Tour de France will conclude on the French Riviera in Nice on July 21 because of the 2024 Olympic Games, which will be contested in beautiful and romantic Paris.
