Team Ineos-Grenadiers Announces Line-Up for Giro d’Italia 2025
The British Ineos-Grenadiers pro cycling team is sending a strong line-up to Giro d’Italia 2025 and combines experience, performance, and talent.
The team’s line-up has been formed around the two team captains Egan Bernal and Thymen Arensman with the shared purpose of fighting for the best possible finish in the general classification, while also aiming for victories in mountain stages. The team will fight for these ambitions while also hoping to achieve an atmosphere of adaptability, creativity, and freedom within the Ineos-Grenadiers team.
Team Ineos-Grenadiers captain Egan Bernal won the 2021 Tour de France and does not only bring great climbing skills, but also significant racing experience. Now 28-year-old Bernal showed great bravery and dedication while fighting adversity following his nearly lethal accident in the 2022 season. The Colombian rider has since managed to rebuild both his courage and form on the bike, though additional top results are yet to come.
“I achieved one of the biggest milestones of my career in the 2021 Giro, which is why the race holds a very special place in my heart,” Bernal explained to Roadcycling.com. “I’m very motivated while also grateful to return as team leader alongside Thymen (Arensman).”
Bernal suffered a setback when he crashed in this season’s Clasica Jaen and suffered a fractured collarbone. “Fortunately, our team created a good rehab plan, and I was able to get back on the bike quickly afterwards, which allowed me to get a solid block of training, so I’m feeling strong heading into this year’s Giro d’Italia,” Bernal continued.
Thymen Arensman - recent second-place finisher in the General Classification of Tour of the Alps – has been chosen as the Ineos-Grenadiers team’s second team captain for the Giro. 25-year-old Arensman of The Netherlands also showed impressive form and consistency by finishing third in this year’s Paris-Nice.
Though twice finishing sixth in the general classifications of the Giro, Arensman has yet to achieve a top result in the general classification of a Grand Tour. Arensman hopes to finish on the podium in this year’s Giro.
The Giro d’Italia has been my major season goal since this past winter. I really love racing in Italy, and I have achieved some great results in past editions of the Giro,” Arensman explained to Roadcycling.com.
“My recent first win with the team came in a very special way and has given me a great boost leading into the Giro. I am now feeling stronger and more consistent in races and my 2025 season has been rather good this far,” Arensman continued.
In addition to Thymen Arensman and Egan Bernal, the Ineos-Grenadiers line-up for this year’s Giro d’Italia features Jonathan Castroviejo, who will ride the race in a lieutenant role and offer important support for the team captains in the mountains. Ineos-Grenadiers team management has also chosen to include Lucas Hamilton, Ben Turner, Kim Heiduk, and Brandon Rivera. The four riders will deliver support for the team leaders in transitional stages.
Ineos-Grenadiers is also bringing Josh Tarling to the Giro and the 21-year-old rider from Aberaeron in Great Britain will be there to gain experience in his first Grand Tour.
The team’s line-up for the Giro d’Italia is possibly offering insufficient climbing support for the team leaders in the decisive climbing stages, but great climbers such as Geraint Thomas has been left out of the roster as he will focus on the Tour de France in his final season as a professional cyclist.
