Soudal-QuickStep Reveals Line-Up for Tour de France 2025

The Soudal-QuickStep team has revealed its roster for Tour de France 2025. The team will fight for a top GC result for Remco Evenepoel, but will be missing its most important lieutenant who should have provided support in the mountains

The renowned Soudal-QuickStep team has presented its line-up for the 2025 Tour de France. The team’s roster is spearheaded by double Olympic Champion Remco Evenepoel, who will be chasing a top general classification result in the race, which will start in the city of Lille on July 5 and feature 21 exhausting stages on French soil.

Evenepoel, who was recently crowned Belgian national time trial champion, finished fourth in June’s Criterium du Dauphine and won the stage 4 time trial of the race. Evenepoel also took part in Tour de Romandie, where he finished fifth in the GC, and won De Brabantse Pijl and finished third in Amstel Gold Race in April. Apart from these results, the 25-year-old rider has not raced much this season but dedicated his time to specific training and other preparation for this year’s Tour de France, which is his most important goal of the season.

“It is difficult for me to know if I have managed to close the gap to the two riders who finished ahead of me in the general classification of last year’s Tour de France,” Evenepoel explained to Roadcycling.com. “I believe we will find out on the roads, where we will take it stage by stage. I am expecting a hectic first week, which will be very tricky and requires full attention. I’m not looking forward to it, but we we’ll try to survive ad hopefully our team will make it through without any injuries,” Evenepoel continued.

The Soudal-QuickStep line-up for the Tour de France is lacking Mikel Landa, who suffered a serious crash in stage 1 of this year’s Giro d’Italia. Landa, was intended as the most important lieutenant for Evenepoel in the Tour and was signed by the team with the specific purpose of assisting Remco Evenepoel in the mountains of the Grand Tours. Landa suffered a fracture to his TH 11 vertebrae, and the Spanish rider is still recovering.

In addition to team captain Remco Evenepoel, the team’s roster for the Tour de France includes Maximilian Schachmann. The German rider will provide valuable climbing support for Evenepoel in the high mountains and is also expected to deliver respectable results in the time trials of Le Tour.

The roster also features Frenchman Valentin Paret-Peintre, who is a dedicated climber, though apart from fine results in the Tour of Oman, the rider has not shown peak performance since his transfer from Team Decathlon-AG2R.

Team Soudal-QuickStep is also bringing pure sprinter Tim Merlier to the Tour de France and will be juggling the two goals of achieving sprint victories for Merlier, while supporting and protecting team leader Evenepoel, who is not expected to accept any lack of focus on his ambitions in the Tour.

“Stage 1 will be a very important one for all the sprinters in the race, because it’s a big opportunity for us to take the yellow jersey. There are a lot of strong sprinters at the start, but we don’t lack the confidence and motivation to aim for stage victories,” Merlier told Roadcycling.com.

Pascal Eenkhoorn will provide valuable support for Merlier and Evenepoel in the flat stages and can also conquer hilly territory. Italian Mattia Cattaneo is an experienced all-rounder and may function as road captain while providing support in varied types of terrain.

Belgian Ilan van Wilder will support Remco Evenepoel in the mountains, while fellow countryman Bert Van Lerberghe will play a crucial role for Tim Merlier in the dangerous mass sprints of the Tour, where many teams and sprinter aces are battling for success on the roads of France.
