Kirsipuu Wins Stage 3 of Four Days of Dunkirk
Jaan Kirsipuu (Ag2r) has won Stage 3 of the Four Days of Dunkirk. The Estonian speedster pipped Julian Dean (CSC) and Jeremy Hunt (MBK) to win the 191-km run from Arras to Arques in 4:30:39. Frederic Finot (Jean Delatour) remains the overall leader. (For more on Julian Dean, check out Roadcycling.com's interview with him plus his own stage 3 report).
The pace was fast, and many abortive attacks occurred. At 32 km, Allan Bo Andresen (Team Fakta) got away and forged a five-minute lead over the peloton. Eventually, Robert Sassone (Cofidis) reeled him in, and the peloton snared both escapees.
More abortive attacks occurred, and among the escapees were Christophe Moreau (Credit Agricole), Laurent Brochard (Jean Delatour), and Cedric Vasseur (Cofidis). The sprinters' teams allowed no one to stay away. The stage came down to a bunch sprint, which Kirsipuu won.
In the overall, Finot leads Berges by 0:06 and Kirsipuu by 2:05. Stage 4 will be hard. It will be a 180-km run that will feature seven climbs. Will Finot stave off his challengers? Check in at http://www.roadcycling.com/ and find out!
