Julian Dean Diary
Hi all,
Carole here. Just wanted to let you all know that Julz is out of hospital. True to Julian's form, his injury isn't a simple one, which made the operation more complicated than expected. The surgeon said that the ball joint of the humerus was actually broken in 3 places and therefore required a fair amount of rebuilding. Four hours, 3 plates and 8 screws later, Julz came out of surgery way more worse for wear than I've ever seen him before. It was horrendous and I was wasn't even on the receiving end of his post-op pain...
It was crazy to see him lie there with awesome form in his legs but an arm too buggered to let him make full use of it. Wasting form in a hospital bed. Perfect!
Anyway, we're home now and although Julz is still feeling devastated, we're already planning our routine for the 'rehab'. The doc said he can get on the home trainer in 2 wks but it'll be a while yet til he can get back on the road. There's a lot of healing to be done and there's no point risking further injury by getting back on the road too soon. That would be a career-ender...
As far as the TDF goes, who knows? It isn't looking great at the mo but we'll just take things as they come and if he doesn't make it to the Tour then at least he still has the Vuelta and the Worlds left to focus on.
Anyway, thanks loads for all your support on the note pad. It's awesome to have so many of you sending wickedly positive healing vibes to my boy....Keep them surging, I say.
Carole :o)
