Ineos-Grenadiers Announces Line-Up for Tour de France 2025

Team Ineos-Grenadiers will head to the 2025 Tour de France with Carlos Rodriguez as team captain while celebrating remarkable career of Geraint Thomas and welcoming new team sponsors to reinvigorate the great British team

The Ineos-Grenadiers team is sending a resilient line-up to the 2025 Tour de France. The team has chosen its eight riders for the roster, which will start the second Grand Tour of the season in the city of Lille on July 5. The roster includes Carlos Rodriguez, Geraint Thomas, Tobias Foss, Filippo Ganna, Axel Laurance, Connor Swift, Sam Watson, and Thymen Arensman.

Ineos-Grenadiers have chosen a line-up that will be spearheaded by Carlos Rodriguez, who will function as team captain. At the same time the team will be celebrating legendary and successful Geraint Thomas, who will be racing his fourteenth and final Tour de France, while also welcoming new team sponsors as the team is seeking to reinvigorate itself and start a new era of sports domination at a time where Great Britain is being revived under new strong political leadership.

24-year-old Carlos Rodriguez has been chosen by Ineos-Grenadiers team management to lead their team in this year’s Tour de France. Spanish rider Rodriguez will be racing his third Tour de France and finished seventh in the GC of last year’s edition. Rodriguez suffered a collarbone fracture in February but showed great determinism when he quickly fought his way back to peak form, while aiming for the Tour, which is the main goal of his racing season. Rodriguez is especially known for his impressive and consistent climbing skills and finished sixth in the GC of this year’s Tour de Romandie and ninth in the GC of this year’s Criterium du Dauphine.

“For me it was a tough and rough start to the season with my crash in February, but I managed to recover fairly quickly, and I have been building my form ever since,” Rodriguez explained to Roadcycling.com. “My goal since before the start of the season has been to arrive at the Tour in July in peak form. Everything has gone to plan this far, and I have managed to prepare well with high-altitude training and decent racing in the legs,” Rodriguez added.

Geraint Thomas, who will be racing his fourteenth and final Tour de France, has unfortunately suffered a mishap-filled preparation phase before his final Tour – a race, which he cherishes and loves more than any other race. Thomas, who won the 2018 Tour de France, crashed and injured his knee during the recent Tour de Suisse, which caused a setback and prevented the Welsh rider from racing in an animated way during the scheduled ride through Switzerland.

Two-time Olympic gold medal winner Geraint Thomas will retire at the end of the season and is eagerly looking to use the given opportunity of the final Tour de France to deliver memorable performances for his team, his family, and not least his many fans – whose social facilitation is known to inspire the Welshman. Thomas is both apprehensive and nervous before the race and is aiming for at least one stage victory, while assisting team captain Rodriguez both on and off the bike. The team will use to opportunity to celebrate and honor Thomas.

“I’ve certainly had my ups and downs, but the Tour de France is an amazing race and it’s both the biggest and best in the world and my personal favorite,” Thomas explained to Roadcycling.com. “When I lined up for my first Tour in 2007, I never thought I’d still be going in 2025 and racing my fourteenth and final Tour de France. The Tour is a rollercoaster and never straightforward, and my approach will be to give everything on the road and be as successful as possible. We’ll all have important roles to play, and I will definitely play mine,” Thomas continued.

Italian powerhouse and time trial specialist Filippo Ganna will compete for a stage victory in the flat time trial of the Tour while providing valuable support for Rodriguez and Thomas in the flat parts of other stages. Ganna recently won the Italian national time trial championships. Norwegian Tobias Foss will also provide support in the flat stretches, while aiming for success in the time trial. French youngster Axel Laurance will be riding his first Tour de France on home soil to gain valuable experience, fight for stage wins, and assist Rodriguez and Thomas.

Thymen Arensman adds valuable climbing skills to the Ineos-Grenadiers Tour line-up. The team would not be able to do without him in the high mountains and the Dutch rider will be protected in the flat stages of the three-week race.

Connor Swift wis a valuable all-rounder and is known for his versatility and strength in key moments, while being willing to sacrifice his own opportunities while loyally assisting grateful teammates. Newly crowned Great Britain National Champion Sam Watson is 23 years old and will be completing the Ineos-Grenadiers roster. It will be Watson’s first Tour de France, and he is ready to offer loyal assistance to the rest of the team.

Team Ineos-Grenadiers also announced it has signed TotalEnergies as jersey sponsor for the team. The Ineos-Grenadiers team will be featuring the TotalEnergies logo prominently on the chest and back of its jerseys starting from the 2025 Tour de France. The team, which is owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has been searching for an additional team sponsor for a long while as the team seeks significant additional funding to again become the dominant power it once was in the sport of cycling. Ratcliffe’s Ineos group is already cooperating with the leading global integrated energy company TotalEnergies and synergies between the companies will now be extended into the sports business.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to be scaling back his investments in the soccer branch of the sports industry, where his Manchester United team – which his Ineos chemicals group co-owns since 2024 - has delivered dismal and embarrassing results in recent seasons, following many years of splendor and despite significant investments from the supportive British businessman. The TotalEnergies group is expected to further increase its sponsorship of the Ineos-Grenadiers team from the coming season as the team looks to reinvigorate itself through the necessary funding to be able to sign riders of a caliber like that of Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates or Jonas Vingegaard of Team Visma-Lease a Bike.

TotalEnergies is already sponsoring a French cycling team, which is said to be folding before the 2027 season, as its legendary manager Jean-Rene Bernaudeau will be retiring. The two teams are expected to join forces with some riders moving to Ineos and the team being renamed Team Ineos-TotalEnergies or Team TotalEnergies-Ineos. With Great Britain currently renewing and reinvigorating itself under new political leadership and with significant investments in British businesses and new industry strategies, perhaps a new British flagship cycling team can also be formed to rule to roads of professional cycling as Team Sky once did. Capital infusions from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and TotalEnergies will surely be much welcomed.

The Ineos-Grenadiers team has also recently announced a partnership with German sportswear manufacturer Adidas. Thew new sponsor will become the team’s official supplier of off the bike clothing and footwear. From the 2026 season, a full range of Ineos-Grenadiers sportswear will be introduced as Adidas extends its support of cycling in the UK and globally.
