Ayuso Wins Stage 3 Time Trial at Tour de Romandie
Today’s stage 3 of Tour de Romandie 2023 was a 18.75 kilometer individual time trial on a hilly course from Chatel Saint Denis to Chatel Saint Denis.
20-year-old German Marco Brenner set an early fastest time for his DSM Team, while Soudal-QuickStep’s early race leader Josef Cerny set the second-best time.
UAE Team Emirates’ Danish rider Mikkel Bjerg delivered a powerful performance and beat Brenner’s fastest time by eleven seconds to replace him in the hot seat. However, Bjerg was soon dethroned by Will Barta (Team Movistar, USA).
Barta’s teammate Matteo Jorgenson then replaced Barta in the hot seat with the main favorites yet to start or finish the individual time trial.
Spanish youngster and upcoming star Juan Ayuso then set the fastest time following a very strong performance.
Tour de Romandie leader Ethan Hayter delivered a disappointing performance and lost the general classification lead.
Ayuso won the stage 3 individual time trial ahead of Jorgenson and Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates).
In the general classification Ayuso now leads the Tour de Romandie. Ayuso has a 18 second advantage over Jorgenson in second and is seconds ahead of Tobias Foss (Team Jumbo-Visma) in third.
Saturday’s stage 4 of Tour de Romandie 2023 is a challenging mountain stage.
