The Greenedge team led by Australian rider Matthew Harley Goss won the team time trial earlier today to open the weeklong classic Tirreno-Adriatico stage race in Italy.
The Greenedge team led by Australian rider Matthew Harley Goss won the team time trial earlier today to open the weeklong classic Tirreno-Adriatico stage race in Italy.
Greenedge clocked 18 minutes, 41 seconds over the 16.9-kilometer (10.5-mile) route from San Vincenzo to Donoratico, and Goss crossed first to take the overall leader's jersey.
RadioShack, led by quadruple world time trial champion Fabian Cancellara, came second. American sprinting standout Tyler Farrar and prologue specialist David Millar led Garmin-Barracuda to a third-place finish. Both teams finished 17 seconds behind.
Defending Tirreno-Adriatico champion Cadel Evans and his BMC Racing Team mates finished 17th, 58 seconds slower than Greenedge.
Tomorrow's stage 2 is a 230-kilometer (142.9-mile) leg from San Vincenzo to Indicatore.
