Australian cyclist Jack Bobridge has broken a 15-year-old world record in the 4-kilometer (2.49 miles) individual pursuit during a qualifying heat at the Australian National Track Championships.
Bobridge set a time of 4 minutes, 10.534 seconds Wednesday at the Dunc Gray Velodrome to break the record set by Christopher Boardman of Britain in 1996 by 0.58 of a second.
Bobridge, who rides with U.S.-based Team Garmin-Cervelo (UCI ProTeam), was a member of the Australian four that won gold in the team pursuit at last year's Track Cycling World Championships, and won the individual pursuit at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
