Team HTC-Highroad ended the three-day 2011 Giro di Trentino stage race on a high note when Judith Arndt fended off her rivals to claim the overall victory earlier this afternoon.
Arndt completed the final seventy-two kilometer stage from Castel Thun to Cles in convincing style, taking second from a lead group of twenty riders which earned the German rider not just the overall victory, but also the points jersey.
"Judith got a time bonus which strengthened her lead, and then she chased down a lot of dangerous attacks," Team HTC-Highroad sports director Jens Zemke told Roadcycling.com and our mobile sister site Roadcycling.mobi.
"It wasn't clear we would win for sure, there were a lot of good rivals here. But she did a super performance and she got really good back-up from her team-mates, too," Zemke added.
"Ina (Teutenberg) did a great job again as well, taking second on the first climb of the day and supporting Judith there, and then leading Judith out in the final sprint."
"It's the first time HTC-Highroad have taken Trentino overall, so we can be pretty satisfied with how it's gone," Zemke concluded commenting on the fact that Team HTC-Highroad led the Giro di Trentino stage race from the beginning to the finish.
The final stage was won by Emma Johansson (Sweden) of Team Hitec Products-UCK ahead of Arndt and Polish Malgorzta Jasinska of Team S.C. Michela Fanini Rox.
