Team Saxo Bank-SunGard's Juan Jose Haedo took victory in the third stage of the 2011 Tirreno-Adriatico but Tyler Farrar of the U.S. retained the overall lead.
The Argentine finished ahead of Farrar and Daniel Oss of Italy in a bunch finish on Friday at the end of the 189-kilometer (117-mile) leg from Terranuova Bracciolini to Perugia.
Haedo is second overall, five seconds behind Farrar.
Haedo's Saxo Bank-SunGard team led the peloton into the final kilometer before Thor Hushovd of Team Garmin-Cervelo mistimed his break. Farrar, Hushovd's teammate, faded in the final 100 m as Haedo sprinted past for the win.
"We took the front ten kilometers to go and created the finale on a very technical route. The guys simply did an astonishing job in front of the field and JJ put the icing on the cake by showing great strength and took a wonderful stage win. A great win for him and for the team", Team Saxo Bank-SunGard sports director Tristan Hoffman told Roadcycling.com.
Juan Jose Haedo is now second overall behind Farrar.
