Filippo Pozzato Wins World Championships Warm-Up Race
Italy's Filippo Pozzato showed good form ahead of next week's World Road Cycling Championships when he won a 150-kilometer (93-mile) warmup race Sunday.
Italy's Filippo Pozzato showed good form ahead of next week's World Road Cycling Championships when he won a 150-kilometer (93-mile) warmup race Sunday.
Pozzato outsprinted Maciej Bodmar of Poland and Chile's Carlose Guinez to win the World Cycling Classic at Buninyong west of Melbourne. Switzerland's Fabian Cancellara, who was the other member of a winning breakaway, finished fourth.
Trixi Worrack of Germany earlier won the 90-kilometer (56-mile) women's race from Belgian Liesilot Decroix and Carla Swart of South Africa.
The world championships begin in Geelong just outside Melbourne on Wednesday and Cancellara will start favorite in Thursday's time trial.
