Frenchman Remy Di Gregorio (Team Astana) launched an attack 13 kilometers from the finish to claim a solo victory in the seventh stage of Paris-Nice 2011 earlier today.
German rider Tony Martin (Team HTC-HighRoad) finished fifth to retain the leader's yellow jersey before Sunday's final stage to Nice.
Under heavy rain, Di Gregorio made his move after Team BMC Racing's Karsten Kroon was caught by the peloton, and then held off his rivals over the final kilometers. Saturday's stage was the longest of the race at 215 kilometers.
After his stage win Di Gregorio commented "the whole Astana team did a huge job and I tried my luck. I took some risks, I almost fell but I had to go for it."The 2011 Tirreno-Adriatico race ends on Tuesday.
