Horner Takes Stage 3 of Vuelta and Red Jersey

Chris Horner (RadioShack-Leopard) has won Stage 3 of the Vuelta a Espana. The American jumped into the lead in the last km of the 184.8-km ride from Vigo to Vilagarcia de Arousa, winning in 4:30:18. Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) outsprinted Joaquin Rodriguez (Katusha) for second at 0:03. Horner is the new red jersey.

Roche Wins Stage 2 of Vuelta; Nibali Takes Red Jersey

Nicolas Roche (Saxo Bank-Tinkoff) has climbed to victory in Stage 2 of the Vuelta a Espana. The Irishman jumped away from a four-man lead group on the day’s final climb to win the 177.7-km ride from Pontevedra to Alto da Groba in 4:37:09. Daniel Moreno (Katusha) finished second at 0:02, and Domenico Pozzovivo (Ag2r-La Mondiale) took third. Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) took the red jersey from teammate Janez Brajkovic (Astana).

Astana Wins Vuelta TTT; Brajkovic Takes Red Jersey

Astana has won Stage 1 of the Vuelta a Espana. The Kazakh squad powered over the 27-km course from Vilanova de Arousa to Sanxenxo to win the team time trial in 29:59. RadioShack-Leopard finished second at 0:10, and Omega Pharma-Quick Step took third at 0:16. Janez Brajkovic, Astana's first finisher, is the first overall leader of the 2013 Vuelta a Espana.
