Martin Wins Stage 12 TT; Froome Tightens Grip on Tour de France

Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) has won Stage 11 of the Tour de France 2013. The German, who suffered a concussion, among other injuries, in a Stage 1 crash, powered over the flat, 33-km course from Avranches to Mont Saint-Michel in 36:29. Chris Froome (Sky) was the only rider to finish within 1:00 of Martin, finishing 0:12 behind the Omega Pharma-Quick Step man. Thomas De Gendt (Vacansoleil-DCM) took third at 1:01. Froome remains the yellow jersey, and he extended his lead today.

Cavendish Wins Stage 5 of Tour de France 2013

Mark Cavendish (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) has opened his account at this year’s Tour de France. The Manx missile took a crash-marred bunch sprint to win Stage 5 of the 2013 Tour, a flat, 228. 5-km run from Cagnes-sur-Mer to Marseille in 5:31:51. Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky) took second, and Peter Sagan (Cannondale) finished third. Simon Gerrans (Orica-GreenEdge) remains the maillot jaune.

The world time trial champion dominated the flat, 32.5-km time trial from Villars-les-Dombes to Parc des Oiseaux in 36:55. Rohan Dennis (Garmin-Sharp) finished second at 0:47, and Chris Froome (Sky) took third at 0:52.

The Manx missile was trying to save his legs for the high mountain stages that will take place this weekend, but he took Stage 13, a rolling, 254-km run from Busseto to Cherasco, in 6:09:55.
