Valverde Takes Liege-Bastogne-Liege

Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d?Epargne) has won his second classic in four days.

from Caisse d?Epargne), Chris Horner (Davitamon), Cunego, Basso and Frank Schleck (both from CSC), Bettini, defending champion Danilo Di Luca (Liquigas), and Andrei Kashechkin (Liberty Seguros).

With two km left, Schleck attacked but was reeled in. Perdiguero and Rodriguez tried their hands, but to no avail. At the one-km banner, Sinkewitz had a go, but Basso countered. Schleck tried again, and so did Basso.

Just before the final left-hand turn, Valverde vaulted past Sinkewitz into the lead. Bettini attempted to pass the Spaniard on the right, but he never had a chance. Valverde became the first Spaniard to win the Fleche Wallonne and Liege-Bastogne-Liege double and the first to win
La Doyenne .

Two days from now, Valverde will start the Tour de Romandie. Will he win that race? Will he show the same form that he has shown in the
Ardennes? Check in at
