Team Garmin-Sharp announces roster for 2013 Tour de France

Hoping to heal the wounds following its disappointing performance in this year's Giro d'Italia, Team Garmin-Sharp has revealed the line-up which will represent the team in this year's Tour de France.

The Garmin-Sharp roster for the centennial edition of the Tour de France features 2012 Giro d’Italia champion and former top-ten finisher, Ryder Hesjedal who abandoned this year's Giro d'Italia, young American Andrew Talansky, making his Tour de France debut, 2013 Liege-Bastogne-Liege winner Dan Martin, stage winner David Millar, and recent Giro d’Italia stage winner Ramunas Navardauskas.

Garmin-Sharp's line-up also includes two-time top-ten finisher Christian Vande Velde and top-ten finisher Tom Danielson who returned from doping-related bans earlier this season and is rounded-out by Jack Bauer and Rohan Dennis, both of whom are making their Tour de France debuts.

"We have a deep team with a lot of options as we head into the Centennial Tour de France. Our goal is to animate the race and with an aggressive strategy, we will aim to place high in the general classification," Jonathan Vaughters, CEO of Team Garmin-Sharp explained.

According to Vaughters the Garmin-Sharp team has included in its roster a few riders who are able of meeting this goal. "Ryder’s (Hesjedal) won a Grand Tour and placed in the top ten of the Tour de France; Andrew (Talansky) is young and while it's his first Tour de France, he is coming off a great season; and Dan Martin is having a breakout year with his wins in Catalunya and Liege-Bastongne-Liege. We will protect our best General Classification options and see how the race shakes out. Our approach is a little unconventional, but we’ve managed to come up with surprises every year at the Tour de France and we’re hoping for the same as we head into Corsica."

"We have a good mix of guys with a lot of experience combined with young riders competing in their first Tour de France," Garmin-Sharp sports director Charly Wegelius explained and continued "We have options when it comes to general classification and we also have riders who are capable of stage wins, so we’ll be looking for those opportunities as well. It’s going to be an exciting three weeks in France."

Team Garmin-Sharp roster for the Tour de France 2013:
