Team Cannondale Sends Strong Roster to Tour de Romandie

Cannondale Pro Cycling Team has selected a strong roster to represent the team in the 2014 Tour de Romandie.

The race will allow some of Cannondale's more inexperienced riders to gain valuable experience while supporting team leader Ivan Basso in his final preparations before this year's Giro d'Italia.

Ivan Basso, Moreno Moser and Damiano Caruso will face the Romandy challenge after taking part in this year's Giro del Trentino. Oscar Gatto returns to action after contesting the Spring Classics in Belgium, France and Holland, followed by a period of rest. Adding to this strong line-up, the team sends Paolo Longo Borghini. Matej Mohoric and Jean-Marc Marino, who fought hard in the classics that took place in the Ardennes. Colombian climber Josè Sarmiento completes the team's roster.

"My eyes are fixed solely on the Giro d'Italia," Ivan Basso explained to RoadCycling.com and added "Every race is a step toward this goal. Even if the results from Giro del Trentino are not what I expected, I'm not discouraged but rather even more motivated to push hard in the Tour de Romandie."

"Since my debut in Australia (Tour Down Under) I'm just interested in doing my best and to learn as much as possible," Mohoric, who is the youngest rider taking part in the WorldTour, explained.

"At Tour de Romandie my aim is the same. The race is suited for my characteristics. Especially the climbs. The race could be an important experience for the future. Anyway, my first goal now is to support my teammates. I'll be happy if my efforts will be useful for the team's ambitions. The second goal is the prologue and final time trial. I would like to perform at my best and see what it will bring."

Team Cannondale Pro Cycling Roster for Tour de Romandie 2014:
Ivan Basso, Moreno Moser, Damiano Caruso, Oscar Gatto, Josè Sarmiento, Paolo Longo Borghini, Jean-Marc Marino, Matej Mohoric.
