Talansky Breaks Away to Overall Win in Dauphine Libere
Andrew Talansky (Garmin-Sharp-POC) has won the Dauphine Libere.
but Talansky made a last-ditch effort of his own to take the overall. Froome rolled home at 5:05 and settled for 12 th place on GC.
Garmin-Sharp-POC directeur sportif Geert Van Bondt attributed the team’s success to teamwork. “We knew coming in that today’s short, hilly stage could be dangerous,” Van Bondt said. “After 20 km, there was a short hard climb, where there were many attacks and a group of 21 riders went clear. Andrew and Ryder were in it, so it was the perfect situation for us. Ryder did an amazing job helping Andrew all day and all week. Then, at 20 km to go, we told Andrew that he had to do his own time trial and give everything and go for the GC win. He did it, and he showed today that he is a true champion. We are very happy and proud of this win.”
Talansky won the Dauphine Libere by 0:27 over Contador and 0:35 over Van den Broeck. We will see many of the riders in the Dauphine Libere in the Tour de France. How will they fare? Check in at www.roadcycling.com and find out!
