Tadej Valjavec Interview
Valjavec (Phonak) reflects on his 2004 season and tells Roadcycling.com readers when to look for him in 2005.
Of course, all these things are not perfect for our sponsor, but all the team works normally.
Last year, you won the Slovenian National Championship, and this year you have been successful in major stage races, including taking the 9th overall ranking in the Giro. With your success in both one-day and stage races, do you see yourself as more of a World Cup rider or a Tour rider?
I have always wanted to be a Tour rider because I like these races, and I also like big climbs.
When does your contract with the Phonak team expire? Do you know what your role will be with the team in 2005? What races will you take part in?
I have a contract with Phonak for another year, and my role will be the leader in the 2005 Giro. For other races, I don't know yet.
The Phonak team is sponsored by BMC bikes. Tell us about your experience with the BMC road bikes and the new BMC time trial bikes that you have been riding on this year. How have they performed in this year's races? How do they compare to previous bikes you have used?
Before this year, I used Pinarello bikes for five years, but I think the BMC road and time trial bikes are the best. They are so light for the climbs, and they have performed perfectly on the downhill also (because they are made of carbon and are very rigid).
