In sharp contrast to yesterday?s torrential rain, the sun came out in Switzerland today to shine on another stage-long break away.  This time the victory went to 24-year-old Ukrainian rider Yuriy Krivstov of the Jean Delatour team. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>

After only 20 km of the day?s stage, Krivstov and Swiss rider Martin Elmiger (Phonak) attacked and began to slowly gain an advantage over the rest of the peloton.  With a little over 50 km of racing remaining, the two riders had a gap of just over ten minutes thanks largely to their efforts as well as a train crossing holding up the disinterested field.  Finally it was Lampre who came to the front to reel back in the two riders, protecting the overall lead of their rider Simone Bertoletti.  Slowly the breakaway began to take it's toll as the lead tumbled.

Both Krivstov and Elmiger made a few half-hearted attacks towards the end, but both riders were still side-by-side as they made their way up the final Cat. 4 climb of Montange de Lussy.

Elmiger led out the sprint only to see the Jean Delatour rider comfortably coming around him with 250m to go to take the stage victory.  A jubilant Krivstov said it was a "good victory for me.  I'm very satisfied.  I knew that Elmiger was strong and fast but I went right to the end and won.  I'm not a great sprinter, but I'm not bad either? .  The Swiss rider, I'm sure, wouldn't disagree.
