Kirsipuu Wins Stage 2 of Etoile des Besseges

Jaan Kirsipuu (Ag2r-Prevoyance) has won Stage 2 of the Etoile des Besseges.

Jaan Kirsipuu (Ag2r-Prevoyance) has won Stage 2 of the Etoile des Besseges. The Estonian sprinter bested Angelo Furlan (Alessio-Bianchi) and Thor Hushovd (Credit Agricole) to take the 149-km circuit race around Palavas-les-Flots in 3:27:01. Stage 1 winner Tom Steels (Landbouwkrediet-Colnago) remains the overall leader.

Today, Guillaume Auger (RAGT Semmences-MG Rover) and Nico Eeckhout (Lotto-Domo) made the early break. The pair built a five-minute lead before Landbouwkrediet-Colnago began to chase. With four km left, the bunch reeled in the break.

Steels received a good leadout from teammate Ludo Dierckxsens, but Kirsipuu powered past him for the win. The victory was the 110th of the Estonian's professional career.

In the overall, Steels leads Kirsipuu (both have a time of 7:00:54), with Hushovd being in third at 0:02. Stage 3 will be a 160-km run from Nimes to Fumades. Who will lead the race at the end of the stage? Check in at http://www.roadcycling.com/ and find out!
