Tony Martin Injured in Bike Accident

Earlier today Team Omega Pharma-QuickStep announced that Time Trial World Champion Tony Martin was involved in an accident during a training session yesterday, not far from his house in Switzerland.

Earlier today Team Omega Pharma-QuickStep announced that Time Trial World Champion Tony Martin (Germany) was involved in an accident during a training session yesterday, not far from his house in Switzerland.

According to preliminary reports, Martin hit a car with his bike and lost consciousness after the impact. Martin was immediately transported to the local hospital in MĂĽnsterlingen, Switzerland where he was diagnosed with a cheek bone fracture, which likely requires surgery.

Earlier this morning Martin was transported by ambulance to the University Hospital in Zurich. Tony Martin's family is with him in the hospital. According to a team spokesman Martin's condition is stable.

In agreement with Team Omega Pharma-QuickStep's medical staff, Martin will undergo further specific medical examinations later today, the results of which will help determine the specific treatment he will need and outline the road to recovery.

According to a team spokesman Tony Martin's clinical condition is being constantly monitored by the hospital staff and the team's own medical staff.
