Team BMC Racing's Karsten Kroon is recovering well after undergoing surgery yesterday to repair facial injuries sustained in a crash in last week's 2010 Fleche Wallonne.

The 90 minute surgery involved first breaking Kroon's nose, before a pair of titanium plates were inserted into the right side of his face.

Kroon said the pain is bearable and the Dutchman looks forward to being back on his BMC bike. According to the rider himself possibly as soon as later this week.

"My surgeon, Dr. Van den Broeck, is happy with the result," Kroon commented. "He was able to do all the cutting from inside my mouth, even though the fracture of the cheekbone was (located) extraordinarily high. So I will not have too much scar tissue visible."

The whole team here at Roadcycling.com is wishing Kroon a speedy recovery.
