Juan Jose Haedo Sprints to Stage 16 Victory in 2011 Vuelta a Espana

Team Saxo Bank-SunGard's Juan Jose Haedo won stage 16 of the 2011 Vuelta a Espana in a bunch sprint earlier this afternoon as Spaniard Juan Jose Cobo of Team Geox retained the overall lead.

Italy's Alessandro Pettachi of Team Lampre finished second on the flat stage from La Olmeda to Haro, with Daniele Bennati, also of Italy, in third. Some riders at the front of the pack went the wrong way entering a roundabout near the finish, including Liquigas-Cannondale's Peter Sagan.

After taking the lead on Sunday's summit finish in the Angliru, Cobo remained in control of the overall classification.

The 2011 Vuelta a Espana concludes in Madrid on September 11.
